Module, Shaft Lock: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Chrysler 300 and 2019 Chrysler 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbags, airbag curtains, knee blocker, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS)/negative battery cable assembly from the negative battery post, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

  1. Carefully inspect the shaft lock module (3) (also known as the Electronic Steering Column Lock/ESCL or the Elektronische Lenkungs Verriegelung/ELV) interface area of the module, the steering shaft and the steering column housing (4) for damage or debris. Remove debris or replace damaged components that could hinder proper shaft lock module operation as required.
  2. Position the shaft lock module through the opening in the top of the column mount (1) and onto the steering column housing.
  3. Push the shaft lock module towards the upper end of the column housing far enough to engage the engagement tab of the module with the steering column housing.
  4. Install and securely tighten the fastener (2) that secures the shaft lock module to the steering column housing.
  5. Install the steering column into the vehicle. Refer to COLUMN, INSTALLATION .
  6. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
NOTE:

Program the modules as described in the Module/Programming Order Replacement Guide. Refer to IMMOBILIZER COMPONENTS AND REPLACEMENT GUIDE .

NOTE:

If the shaft lock module has been replaced, the Radio Frequency Hub Module (RFHM) must also be replaced. A diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to initialize the new modules before the vehicle can be operated. Refer to IMMOBILIZER COMPONENTS AND REPLACEMENT GUIDE .

NOTE:

Vehicles equipped with Passive Entry Keyless Go (PEKG): If the RFHM is being replaced, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to initialize and configure the new RFHM. Follow the programming steps outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for Replace RFHM found under Miscellaneous Functions for the RFHM menu item.

NOTE:

On vehicles equipped with the Sentry Key Immobilizer System (SKIS), when the RFHM is replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to initialize the new RFHM and to program at least two Sentry Key FOB with Integrated Key (FOBIK) transponders before the vehicle can be operated. Refer to IMMOBILIZER COMPONENTS AND REPLACEMENT GUIDE .
