Checking Evaporative Emission System Performance With No DTCS

NOTE: For connector identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS . For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components.
  1. Start the engine. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature. Engine must be in closed loop. With the DRBIII®, go to Purge Vapors Test. Press 3 to flow. Short Term Adaptive should change. Did Short Term Adaptive change? If yes, test is complete. If no, go to next step.
  2. Use the Freeze Frame Data to help you duplicate the conditions that set the DTC. Pay particular attention to the DTC set conditions, such as VSS, MAP, ECT, and Load. Visually inspect the EVAP Purge Solenoid and vacuum harness. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken hoses. Check for any technical service bulletins that may apply. Were any problems found? If yes, repair vacuum harness/connections as necessary. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - WRANGLER article. If no, go to next step.
  3. Use the Freeze Frame Data to help you duplicate the conditions that set the DTC. Pay particular attention to the DTC set conditions, such as VSS, MAP, ECT, and Load. Visually inspect the related wire harness. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Visually inspect the related wire harness connectors. Look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals. Refer to any technical service bulletins that may apply. Perform a wiggle test of the EVAP Purge Solenoid wiring while the circuit is actuated with the DRBIII®. Listen for the solenoid to quit actuating. Also watch for the Good Trip Counter to change to zero. Were any problems found? If yes, repair wiring harness/connectors as necessary. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - WRANGLER article. If no, go to next step.
  4. NOTE: Fuel rollover valve may also be referred to as a fuel tank check valve, control valve, one-way check valve or float valve.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove the Purge Solenoid. Inspect the line from fuel rollover valve to the EVAP purge solenoid. Fuel rollover valve is located on top of fuel tank. Is liquid fuel in the line? If yes, replace the Rollover Valve. If no, go to next step. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - WRANGLER article.
  6. Remove EVAP purge solenoid. Tap EVAP purge solenoid ports against a clean, solid surface. Did any foreign material fall out of ports? If yes, replace EVAP purge solenoid. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 under VERIFICATION TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - WRANGLER article. If no, test is complete.
