DTC P1830: Clutch Override Relay Control Circuit: Test

NOTE: Clutch Switch Override Relay may also be referred to as Clutch Interlock Relay.

Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, record and erase DTCs. Turn the ignition off. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, read DTCs. Does the DRBIII® display DTC P1830-CLUTCH OVERRIDE RELAY CIRCUIT? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 7.
With the DRBIII®, erase DTCs. Turn the ignition off. Install a substitute relay in place of the Clutch Switch Override Relay. Clutch Switch Override Relay is located in PDC. Turn the ignition on. With the DRBIII®, read DTCs. Does the DTC reset? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the Clutch Switch Override Relay.
Turn the ignition off to the lock position. Disconnect the PCM harness connectors. Remove the Clutch Switch Override Relay. Check connectors and clean/repair as necessary. Measure the resistance of the Clutch Override Relay Control circuit from Clutch Switch Override Relay harness connector to PCM harness connector. Is the resistance above 5.0 ohms? If yes, repair the Clutch Override Relay Control circuit for an open. If no, go to next step.
Turn the ignition on. Measure the voltage of the Clutch Override Relay Control circuit at the Clutch Override Relay Control harness connector. Is there any voltage present? If yes, repair the Clutch Override Relay Control circuit for a short to voltage. If no, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Reconnect PCM connectors. Turn the ignition on. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the Clutch Override Switch Fused Ignition Output circuit at the Clutch Override Relay Control harness connector. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery. The test light must illuminate brightly. Does the test light illuminate brightly? If yes, repair the Clutch Override Switch Fused Ignition circuit for an open. If the fuse is open, make sure to check for a short to ground. If no, go to next step.
There are no possible causes remaining, replace PCM. Program the new PCM. See PROGRAMMING .
The conditions necessary to set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Wiggle the wiring while checking for shorts and open circuits. Were there any problems found? If yes, repair as necessary. If no, test is complete.
