DTC P0441: EVAP Purge Flow Monitor Failure: Testing
NOTE:
EVAP purge solenoid may also be referred to as EVAP canister purge solenoid or duty cycle EVAP purge solenoid.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is not displayed and equal to zero, go to next step. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP counter is displayed and equal to zero, go to step 4 .
- At this time, conditions for EVAP purge flow monitor failure do not exist or fault is an intermittent problem. Using scan tool, read FREEZE FRAME data while attempting to duplicate the conditions that caused DTC to be set. If DTC P0441: EVAP PURGE FLOW MONITOR FAILURE reoccurs, go to next step. If DTC P0441: EVAP PURGE FLOW MONITOR FAILURE does not reoccur, condition no longer exists. Test is complete
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP purge solenoid connector. EVAP purge solenoid is located in engine compartment, left of brake booster. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between EVAP purge solenoid terminals. If resistance is 10-15 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 10-15 ohms, replace EVAP purge solenoid.
- Inspect all vacuum hoses for proper routing and check vacuum hoses from engine to EVAP purge solenoid, and from EVAP purge solenoid to the fuel tank for restrictions. For vacuum hose routing, see VACUUM DIAGRAMS article. If all hoses are okay, go to next step. If any hoses are improperly routed or restricted, repair hoses as necessary.
- Remove EVAP purge solenoid. Lightly tap EVAP purge solenoid ports on a clean solid surface. If foreign material comes out of EVAP purge solenoid ports, go to next step. If no foreign material comes out of EVAP purge solenoid ports, replace EVAP purge solenoid.
- Inspect vacuum line from EVAP purge solenoid to EVAP canister. If vacuum line is disconnected, ripped or cut, repair or replace vacuum line as necessary and replace EVAP purge solenoid. If vacuum line is not disconnected, ripped or cut, clean out vacuum line as necessary, and replace EVAP purge solenoid and EVAP canister.
