Doors Lock With Key In Ignition & Front Door Open
- Ensure key is in ignition switch. Using scan tool, read KEY-IN IGNITION status. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays CLOSED, go to step 6.
- Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C1. See Figure. Disconnect ignition switch 2-pin connector. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Light Blue wire between ignition switch 2-pin connector terminal No. 1 and BCM connector C1 terminal No. 6 . See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Light Blue wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Reconnect BCM connector C1. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ignition switch 2-pin connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Connect a jumper wire between ignition switch 2-pin connector terminals. Using scan tool, read KEY-IN IGNITION status. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays CLOSED, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Open driver's door. Using scan tool, select BODY, DOOR MODULES, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read DRV DOOR AJAR SW. If scan tool displays CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to step 8.
- Replace Body Control Module (BCM). See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Remove driver's inner door trim panel. Disconnect driver's door lock motor/ajar switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and driver's door lock motor/ajar switch connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire). See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Disconnect Driver's Door Module (DDM) connector C1. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Tan/Red wire between driver's door lock motor/ajar switch connector terminal No. 1 and DDM connector C1 terminal No. 11. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Tan/Red wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Open driver's door. Connect driver's door lock motor/ajar switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and DDM connector C1 terminal No. 11 (Tan/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, replace driver's door lock motor/ajar switch assembly. See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS & REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Open driver's door. Using scan tool, select BODY, DOOR MODULES, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read DRV DOOR AJAR SW. If scan tool displays CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to step 13.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Replace DDM. See POWER WINDOWS - GRAND CHEROKEE article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
