Driver's Seat Heat Output Short To Ground

  1. Raise seat to highest position to access seat connectors. Disconnect driver's heated seat cushion Black 4-pin connector located at rear of seat. Using scan tool, select BODY, MEMORY SEAT MODULE then READ DTCs. If scan tool indicates DRIVER'S SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate DRIVER'S SEAT HEAT OUTPUT SHORT TO GROUND, go to step  4.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect HSM connector C2 located at front of seat. Using DVOM, measure resistance between HSM connector C2 terminals No. 2 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. See Figure. If resistance is greater that 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Orange wire between driver's heated seat cushion and HSM. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Replace HSM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT MODULE, HEATED SEAT MODULE, MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Using DVOM, measure resistance between driver's heated seat cushion connector terminal "A" (White wire, seat cushion side) and ground. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, replace driver's heated seat cushion. See appropriate POWER SEATS article. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Disconnect driver's heated seat back Green 2-pin connector located at rear of seat. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Black/Orange wire between driver's heated seat cushion connector terminal "A" (harness side) and ground. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Orange wire between driver's heated seat cushion and HSM. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Using DVOM, measure resistance between driver's heated seat back connector terminal "A" (Brown wire, seat back side) and ground. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, replace driver's heated seat back. See appropriate POWER SEATS article. Perform MEMORY/HEATED SEATS VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Replace HSM. See MEMORY HEATED SEAT MODULE, HEATED SEAT MODULE, MEMORY SEAT MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
