  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select CMTC. Read CCD BUS information under SYSTEM MONITORS. If Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) message is NOT RECEIVED, go to next step. If MIC and PCM message is other than NOT RECEIVED, go to step  3 .
  2. Using scan tool, select MIC. Read PCM monitor under SYSTEM TEST. If PCM is ACTIVE on bus, replace CMTC. See OVERHEAD CONSOLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If PCM is not ACTIVE on bus, go to NO RESPONSE FROM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under COMMUNICATIONS.

See OVERHEAD CONSOLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If instrument cluster gauge(s) and/or indicator light(s) do not respond properly during self-test, replace instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
