Test TC-149B: Fuel Level Sending Unit Volts Too Low

NOTE: This test applies to AB body only. Perform TEST TC-149A: FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT VOLTS TOO LOW  before proceeding. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For component location and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
WARNING: Ensure fuel pressure is released before removing any fuel system component, as fuel system is under pressure and may cause personal injury. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE .
  1. Remove fuel pump module. See FUEL PUMP MODULE under FUEL SYSTEM in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION GASOLINE - TRUCKS & RWD VANS article. Place fuel gauge float in empty (down) position. Go to next step.
  2. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between fuel pump, low fuel sense circuit (Light Blue/Black wire) and sensor ground circuit (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is 210-230 ohms, replace fuel pump module (jumper) harness and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION . If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel pump module and perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST VERIFICATION .
