Test NS-3A: Checking Engine Mechanical System

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For component location and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  1. Inspect spark plug cables for correct placement. Reposition cables as necessary and perform TEST VER-1A: NO START VERIFICATION . See illustrations under FIRING ORDER & TIMING MARKS in ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS - TRUCKS & VANS article. If spark plug cables are installed correctly, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Check valve timing. Correct valve timing as necessary and perform TEST VER-1A: NO START VERIFICATION . If valve timing is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check exhaust system for restrictions. Repair exhaust system as necessary and perform TEST VER-1A: NO START VERIFICATION . If exhaust system is okay, go to next step.
  4. Remove ASD relay. Remove spark plugs. Check engine compression. Repair engine mechanical condition as necessary and perform TEST VER-1A: NO START VERIFICATION . If engine is okay, replace PCM and perform TEST VER-1A: NO START VERIFICATION .
