Test 11A - Left Front Sensor Signal Missing/Comparison

NOTE: Perform TEST 1A  before proceeding. For connector terminal and circuit identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAM . Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
  1. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If LEFT FRONT SENSOR CIRCUIT FAILURE DTC is present, perform TEST 6A . If specified DTC is not present, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, monitor Left Front (LF) Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) while an assistant drives vehicle. From a stop, slowly accelerate as straight as possible to 15 MPH. If LF WSS signal shows zero MPH, or shows a value 3 MPH less than other sensors, go to step 4). If sensor value is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. WSS signal is okay at this time. DTC may have been set by attempting to stop on a very slick road surface. DTC may also be caused by brakes locking up due to lining contamination or overheating. If these conditions are present, repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test is complete. Perform TEST VER-1A .
  4. Inspect LF WSS for damage or loose mounting. Check tone wheel for damaged or missing teeth. Repair as necessary. If sensor and tone wheel are okay, go to next step.
  5. Using a feeler gauge, measure sensor air gap in at least 4 places. If air gap is .016-.051" (.40-1.30 mm), go to next step. If air gap is not as specified, replace LF WSS.
  6. Inspect wheel bearings for excessive runout or clearance. Repair as necessary. If wheel bearings are okay, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) connectors. Inspect connectors for corroded, damaged or backed-out terminal pins. Repair as necessary. If connectors are okay, go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance between CAB connector "B", terminals B9 and B10. If resistance is less than 200 ohms, repair LF WSS positive (+) circuit for short to LF WSS negative (-) circuit. If resistance is 200 ohms or more, replace LF WSS.
