Test 10A - Bus (+) & Bus (-) Shorted Together

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  in this article. For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Using scan tool, indicate whether vehicle is equipped with specific module. For module/system options available, refer to the MODULE APPLICATIONS  table under IDENTIFICATION. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector, if equipped.
  2. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace TCM. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  3. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  4. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace CAB module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  5. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) or Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC) connector. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace MIC or EIC. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  6. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace VTSS module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  7. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect compass/mini-trip module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace compass/mini-trip module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  8. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect Infinity premium radio, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace radio/CD player. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  9. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Wait 2 minutes before proceeding. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace ACM. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  10. Disconnect Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) module connector, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace ATC module. Perform TEST VER-1 .
  11. If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors, if equipped. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, replace BCM. Perform TEST VER-1 . If scan tool displays BUS (+) & BUS (-) SHORTED TOGETHER, disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC).
  12. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between DLC, CCD BUS positive circuit (White/Violet wire on YJ body; Violet/Brown wire on all others) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair CCD BUS wires for shorting together. Perform TEST VER-1 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace scan tool cable or cartridge as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1 .
