Scan Tool Diagnostic Mode

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Attach scan tool to data link connector. Connector is located on left side (right side on Grand Cherokee) of engine compartment, near PCM. See Figure and Figure . Start engine (if possible). Turn A/C system on, then off (if equipped).
  2. Turn engine off. Without starting engine, turn ignition on and access READ TROUBLE CODES function of scan tool FUEL/IGN MENU.
  3. Record all fault messages displayed by scan tool, and observe MIL on instrument cluster. MIL should come on for 3 seconds and then go out (bulb check).
