Test 8A - EIC Or Compass/Mini-Trip Illumination Test

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article in this section.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn park light switch to ON position. If park lights do not turn on, go to step 6). If park lights turn on, read panel light sensor voltage while moving dimmer control lever from LOW to HIGH position using DRB.
  2. If DRB display changes from zero to 5 volts, proceed to TEST 8C - REPAIRING SHORT  . If DRB display does not change from zero to 5 volts, go to next step.
  3. Read panel light sensor voltage. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to TEST 8D - REPAIRING OPEN  . If voltage is less than 4 volts, remove and inspect fuse No. 9 in fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to TEST 8F - REPAIRING OPEN  . If fuse is blown, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Natural Body Control Module (BCM) connector. BCM is located behind center console. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  5. Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of fuse park light relay output circuit (Tan wire) at Natural BCM connector terminal No. 16. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Tan wire and replace fuse No. 9. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 9. Perform TEST VER-1B  .
  6. Access left switch pod assembly. Disconnect left pod switch Blue connector. Check connector, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If connector is okay, go to next step.
  7. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage on park light relay control circuit at left pod switch Blue connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Orange wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace left pod switch. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  8. Remove and inspect fuse No. 2 in fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to TEST 8E - REPAIRING SHORT  . If fuse is okay, reinstall fuse. Check voltage on battery feed circuit (Red/Black wire) to fuse No. 2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/Black wire between power distribution center and fuse block. Perform TEST VER-1B  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to TEST 8B - REPAIRING PARK LIGHT OPERATION  .
