SUBJECT

"Flash To Pass" Incorrectly Activates Low Beam Headlights

CONDITION & CAUSE

The "flash to pass" feature on some 1989 Cherokee, Comanche and Wagoneer vehicles may incorrectly illuminate the low beam headlights instead of the high beam headlights. This condition may be caused by reversed wires in the dimmer switch connector.

DIAGNOSIS

With the headlight switch in the "OFF" position, pull the turn signal lever toward yourself. The high beam headlights should come on until the lever is released. If the low beam headlights come on, the high and low beam circuit wires in the dimmer switch are reversed.

REPAIR

Disconnect the dimmer switch connector from the switch on the lower steering column and ensure the wiring is the same as the illustration below. If the wiring is not the same as the illustration, use a small screwdriver and remove the Light Green and White wires. Reverse the 2 wires and reinstall them in the connector.
