Diagnostic Test Procedure

  1. Disconnect the ECM/TCM fan motor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECM/TCM cooling fan motor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. Is voltage greater than 10 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair circuit between ECM/TCM cooling fan motor harness connector terminal No. 2 and battery. This circuit includes the EMS fuse box, (fuse No. 16), EMS control relay, and the high power protection module.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect ECM connector EM85. Measure resistance between ECM harness connector EM85 terminal No. 5 and ECM/TCM fan motor harness connector terminal No. 1. Is resistance greater than 5 ohms? If yes, repair high resistance between ECM harness connector EM85 terminal No. 5 and ECM/TCM fan motor harness connector terminal No. 1. If no, clear codes and retest system. If DTC resets, possible ECM failure.
