DTC P0443: EVAP Control System Purge Valve Malfunction

NOTE: After each repair, clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES/PCM RESET PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Turn ignition off and then on. Read DTCs to verify repair is complete. For DLC and PCM connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC P0443 is present, turn ignition off. Ensure EVAP purge valve harness and connectors are not damaged and connections are okay. Repair as necessary. If harness and connectors are okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect EVAP purge valve harness connector. Using DVOM, check for continuity of the following:
    • On XJS models, the Black/Yellow wire between EVAP purge valve connector terminal No. 1 and PCM power relay connector terminal, and of Purple/Green wire between EVAP purge valve connector terminal No. 2 and PCM Black connector terminal No. 34.
    • On all other models, the Black/Light Green wire between EVAP purge valve connector terminal No. 1 and PCM power relay connector terminal, and of Purple/Green wire between EVAP purge valve connector terminal No. 2 and PCM Black connector terminal No. 34.
    Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check for short circuit to ground between EVAP purge valve connector terminals and ground. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, check for short circuit across EVAP purge valve connector terminals. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
  4. Clear DTCs. Turn ignition off and then on. Read DTCs. If DTC P0443 is not present, repair is complete. If DTC P0443 is present, replace PCM.
