NOTE: This bulletin supersedes Technical Bulletin 86-64.

ISSUE:

Service Tool JD 189 has been introduced for checking and setting the distributor body and rotor arm position on AJ6 engines.

ACTION:

To check and/or set the distributor body and rotor arm position, use the following procedure:

  1. Unclip and remove the distributor cap (H.T. leads connected).
  2. On the compression stroke of the No. 1 cylinder, set the engine to T.D.C. by aligning the leading edge of the marked tooth on the crankshaft reluctor wheel with the pointer on the timing cover. See Fig 1 .

  3. Fit tool JD 189 to the distributor body. See Fig 2 . Make sure that the lug on the tool engages with the notch in the distributor body.

  4. If necessary, loosen the distributor clamp bolt and rotate the distributor body until the tool engages with the notch. Then tighten the distributor clamp bolt.
  5. Remove the tool and install the distributor cap.
