Combination Switch: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Axiom. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install combination switch and SRS coil assembly. After installation of combination switch assembly, connect combination switch wiring harness connector and SRS 2-way connector located under steering column. Then turn SRS coil counterclockwise to full, return about 3 turns and align neutral mark. See Fig 1 .
    CAUTION: Turn SRS coil counterclockwise until some resistance is felt or damage may occur to SRS coil.

  2. When installing steering column cover, be sure to route each wire harness see, Fig 2 so that harnesses do not catch on any moving parts.

  3. Align setting marks made when removing then install steering wheel.
    CAUTION: Never apply force to steering wheel shaft using a hammer or other impact tools in an attempt to remove steering wheel. The steering shaft is designed as an energy absorbing unit.
  4. Tighten steering wheel fixing nut to specified torque: 25 Ft lbs (34 N.m).
  5. Support inflator module and carefully connect SRS connector and horn lead.
    NOTE: Pass lead wire through the tabs on plastic cover (wire protector) of inflator to prevent lead wire from being pinched.
  6. Tighten bolts to specified torque: 78 In (9 N.m).
  7. Install driver knee bolter (reinforcement).
  8. Install instrument panel lower cover the install engine hood opening lever.
  9. Connect SRS connector.
  10. Connect battery (-) terminal cable.
  11. Turn ignition switch to ON position and observe the warning lamp. Lamp should flash seven times. If lamp does not operate correctly, see AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
