Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system check. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read ENG COOL TEMP. If temperature is less than 282°F (139°C), go to step 4 . If temperature is 282°F (139°C) or greater, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read and record FAILURE RECORDS data. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAILURE RECORDS data. Using scan tool, read SPECIFIC DTC. If scan tool displays DTC P0117 FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P0117 FAILED THIS IGN, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Disconnect ECT sensor harness connector. Using scan tool, read ENG COOL TEMP. If reading is -38°F (-39°C), go to step 6 . If reading is not as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. Check ECT sensor input circuit for shorted condition. If no short is found, go to step 7 . If short is found, repair as necessary. Retest system.
- Replace ECT sensor. Retest system.
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. Retest system.
