Test 3: Water Temp Sensor (Codes 14, 15 & 16)

  1. Disconnect MCU control terminals at MCU. Disconnect terminal connector from water temperature sensor. Check circuits 6 and 8 between the MCU terminal and water temperature sensor for shorts and grounds.
  2. Measure the resistance across the water temperature sensor terminals. Compare sensor resistance to coolant temperature.
    IMPULSE WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE

    Temperature Resistance
    15 °F (-10 °C) 7-12 ohms
    50 °F (10 °C) 3-5 ohms
    70 °F (21 °C) 2-3 ohms
    125 °F (52 °C) 0.7-1 ohms
    175 °F (80 °C) 0.2-0.4 ohms
  3. Replace water temperature sensor if resistance does not meet specifications.
