Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and 2002 Oldsmobile Alero. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform diagnostic system check for malfunctioning system. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK INDEX  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) DLC is located under driver side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCS function and retrieve any BCM DTCs. If DTC B1001 is retrieved as a current DTC, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, system is okay at this time.
  3. Reprogram module. For BCM programming, see BODY CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMING/REGULAR PRODUCTION OPTION CODES  under PROGRAMMING. For other modules, see PROGRAMMING in appropriate system article. If DTC B1001 resets, go to next step. If DTC B1001 does not reset, system is okay at this time.
  4. Replace module. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  .
