Diagnostic Procedure
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump assembly harness connector located behind access cover, under rear seat. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and fuel pump assembly harness connector terminal No. 2 (Green wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to step 3 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
- Check the following:
- Check for poor connection at White, 18-pin connector M6 terminal No. 6 (Green wire). See Figure . Connector M6 is located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure .
- Check for open or short between fuel level sensor and instrument cluster. See ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Turn ignition off. Check continuity between body ground and fuel pump assembly harness connector terminal No. 5 (Black wire). Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to voltage. If problem is found, repair as necessary. If problem is not found, go to next step.
- Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure
. Check continuity of the following:
- Green wire between fuel level sensor and fuel pump harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 69.
- Black wire between fuel level sensor and fuel pump harness connector terminal No. 5 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 78.
See Figure . Also, check circuits for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step 6 .
- Check the following:
- Check for poor connection at White, 18-pin harness connector F66 terminals No. 7 (Black wire) and No. 8 (Green wire). See Figure . Connector is located under instrument panel. See Figure .
- Check for poor connection at White, 18-pin connector M6 terminal No. 6 (Green wire). See Figure . Connector M6 is located under left side of instrument panel. See Figure .
- Check for open or short between fuel level sensor and ECM.
- Measure resistance between fuel pump assembly terminals No. 2 and 5 as shown in illustration. See Figure . If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump.
- No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
