Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Remove ECT sensor, and place in heated water. For location, see Figure . Measure resistance between sensor terminals, with water at specified temperatures. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table in DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DTC P0117 OR DTC P0118. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace ECT sensor.
  2. Allow engine to cool to less than 158°F (70°C). Start engine. Grasp lower radiator hose to check for coolant flow. If coolant is flowing, replace thermostat. If coolant is not flowing, go to next step.
  3. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
