DTC Confirmation Test

Malfunction is detected when EGR flow is detected under conditions that do not call for EGR. Possible causes are:

• EGR Volume Control Valve (EGR-VCV) circuit open or shorted.
• EGR-VCV leaking or stuck open.
• Defective EGR temperature sensor.

NOTE: If voltage values are not as specified in the following step, allow engine to cool.
1. To set DTC, turn ignition on. Select MODE 1 with scan tool. Ensure engine coolant temperature is 14-95°F (-10-35°C). Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 72 (EGR temperature sensor signal) by backprobing. See Figure and Figure . Ensure voltage is less than 4.8 volts. Start engine and let it idle for at least 80 seconds.
2. Turn ignition off and wait at least 5 seconds. Repeat step  1. Select MODE 3.
