Electronic Stability Program/Electronic Stability Control (ESP/ESC)
A Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) generates a waveform with frequencies proportional to the speed of the vehicle. The signals generated by the WSS inform the ESP/ESC Module of not only if the vehicle speed is low or high but also if the vehicle is or is not moving. Then, the ESP/ESC module informs the Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module (ECM/PCM) of the information. The ECM/PCM then uses the information to control fuel injection, ignition timing, transaxle shift scheduling and torque converter clutch scheduling. The WSS signal is also used to detect rough road conditions.
