Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery.

DESCRIPTION
This bulletin provides the procedure to update the Smart Key Module (SMK) software.
Applicable Vehicles: 2013 Elantra GT (GD) equipped with Smart Key, and Automatic Transmission

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS
NOTE:
Make sure the battery icon at the bottom right of the GDS laptop shows at least 50%. If not, charge the GDS or attach a battery charger.
- Make sure the GDS is updated to the latest version using internet smart update.
- Make sure the vehicle's battery has reasonable charge. If the vehicle has been in storage for a long period of time, run the engine to ensure an adequate battery charge state for reliable update results.
- Turn off all lights (do not leave the headlight switch in auto mode) and all accessories (including heater/air conditioner/fan for both front and rear(if equipped), audio, heated seats, rear defroster, etc) to ensure the battery will not be discharged during the update.
- Perform the update with the ignition key in the ON position. (Turn ignition key to the ON position or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal).
- Do not disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or the GDS during the update.
- Do not start the engine or turn the ignition switch OFF during the update.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Connect the USB cable between the GDS and the VCI.
- Connect the 16-pin DLC connector from the VCI into the DLC located under the driver's side dash (within the fuse box).
- Press the power button on the VCI to turn it ON.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position. (Turn ignition key to the ON position, or press the Start-Stop button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal).
GDS AUTO MODE SMK UPDATE PROCEDURE
- From the GDS home page, select ECU Upgrade. After selecting ECU Upgrade, if the GDS does not automatically detect the VIN, then manually enter the VIN number.
- Select PIC as the system and then select OK.
- Select Auto Mode and then select Next.
- Select PIC and then select OK.
- The GDS will read the ROM ID. Confirm the ROM is applicable as shown on Page 1, "ROM ID Information Table".
- Select the update event "276.GD SMK UPDATE" and then select Upgrade.
- If the vehicle battery voltage is 12 volts or greater, then select OK. If not, select CANCEL and charge the vehicle battery by running the engine for 10 minutes.
- Turn the Ignition OFF, open the driver door, wait 30 seconds, and then select OK.NOTE: This update is performed with driver door open, and ignition in the OFF position.
- Update will begin and the progress of the update will appear on the bar graph. It will take approximately 2 minutes until the progress bar reaches 100%.
- When the update is completed, wait for a pop up screen confirmation shown below. Select OK.
- Check if any incidental Diagnostic Codes (DTC) have been created by the update, and then clear all the DTC (s).
- Confirm all the DTC(s) have been cleared from the GDS, and then proceed with clearing the DTC(s) from the Blue Link system. See the last section of this TSB for instructions on how to clear DTC(s) through Blue Link.
GDS MANUAL MODE SMK UPDATE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
- The manual update should be performed only when the automatic update fails.
- If automatic update fails, or if somehow the update was interrupted while downloading the software, then do the following:
- Disconnect battery negative (-) cable for about 5 minutes.
- Reconnect the negative (-) cable, and then proceed to perform the manual update.
- From the GDS home page, select ECU Upgrade. After selecting ECU Upgrade, if the GDS does not automatically detect the VIN, then manually enter the VIN number.
- Select PIC as the system and then select OK.
- Select Manual Mode and then select Next.
- Select PIC and then select Next.
- Select the update event "276.GD SMK UPDATE" and then select Next.
- Select "GD SMK: 95480-A5111" and then select Upgrade. A pop up screen will request for a Password. Enter 5111 and then select OK.
- If the vehicle battery voltage is 12 volts or greater, then select OK. If not, select CANCEL and charge the vehicle battery by running the engine for 10 minutes.
- Turn the Ignition OFF, open the driver door, wait 30 seconds, and then select OK.NOTE: This update is performed with driver door open, and ignition in the OFF position.
- Update will begin and the progress of the update will appear on the bar graph. It will take approximately 2 minutes until the progress bar reaches 100%.
- When the update is completed, wait for a pop up screen confirmation shown below. Select OK.

CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC CODE(S) FROM BLUE LINK SYSTEM
NOTE:
- After updating the SMK, it is possible that a diagnostic code(s) may trigger. Therefore, it is necessary to also clear the diagnostic code(s) from Blue Link system.
- Before starting Blue Link code clearing procedure, confirm if the vehicle is already enrolled in Blue Link account.
- Once account status has been determined, refer to the appropriate section below for the correct procedure to clear Blue Link Diagnostic Code(s).
HOW TO DETERMINE IF VEHICLE HAS BEEN ENROLLED/REGISTERED IN BLUE LINK
- Make sure vehicle is in an open location where cellular signal is not affected.
- Turn the engine ON with key or press the "START/STOP" button with the foot engaged on the brake pedal, and allow engine to idle for 10 seconds. Press the Blue Link button on the rear view mirror.
- Wait for the system to prompt "Please say the name of the service", and then say "Menu ".
- The interactive voice will announce one of the available options below which will determine the blue link account status:
- Enrolled/Registered - "Menu. There are four categories. Please say Navigation, Information, Entertainment, or Vehicle Assist".
- Not Enrolled/Registered - "Menu. You can say Port Inspection, Dealer PDI, Vehicle Report, Navigation Demo, or Goodbye".
VEHICLE NOT YET ENROLLED/REGISTERED IN BLUE LINK
- Make sure vehicle is in an open location where cellular signal is not affected.
- Disconnect the GDS tool from the OBD-II connector.
- Turn the ignition ON and then OFF, wait 10 seconds, and repeat ignition ON and OFF again.
- Turn the vehicle engine ON and allow engine to idle for 10 seconds. Press the Blue Link button on the rear view mirror.
- Wait for the system to prompt "Please say the name of the service", and then say "Vehicle Report ". System will confirm by stating "Vehicle Report Submitted".
- After confirmation, the system will prompt "Please say the name of the service", and then say "Goodbye ". Blue Link system will then disconnect and end the call.
- LEAVE ENGINE RUNNING FOR A MINIMUM OF 3 MINUTES , and then turn the engine OFF.
- Turn Engine ON and press the Blue Link button on the rear view mirror
- Verify "A possible condition" message is not heard.NOTE: If the "A possible condition" message is heard, repeat steps 3-10.
- Blue Link DTC clearing procedure complete.
VEHICLE ENROLLED/REGISTERED IN BLUE LINK
- Make sure vehicle is in an open location where cellular signal is not affected.
- Disconnect the GDS tool from the OBD-II connector.
- Turn the ignition ON and then OFF, wait 10 seconds, and repeat ignition ON and OFF again.
- Turn the vehicle engine ON and allow engine to idle for 10 seconds. Press the Blue Link button on the rear view mirror.
- Then say "Blue Link Service Complete ". This is a hidden command, so the Blue Link interactive voice will not list it as an available option.
- System will confirm by stating "Service complete please say Main Menu or Goodbye", then say "Goodbye ". Blue Link system will then disconnect and end the call.
- LEAVE ENGINE RUNNING FOR A MINIMUM OF 3 MINUTES , and then turn the engine OFF.
- Turn Engine ON and press the Blue Link button on the rear view mirror
- Verify "A possible condition" message is not heard.NOTE: If the "A possible condition" message is heard, repeat steps 3-10.
- Blue Link DTC clearing procedure complete.
