P0196: Engine Oil Temperature Sensor-Range/Performance: DTC Detecting Condition

P0196 ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR-RANGE/PERFORMANCE

  • Sensor signal Stuck
  • Poor connection or damaged harness

Enable Conditions case 1
  • Engine coolant temperature at start < 40 °C (104 °F)
  • No relevant failure
  • 6 V < Battery voltage < 16 V
case 2
  • 6 V < Battery voltage < 16 V
  • No relevant failure
Threshold Value case 1
  • Measured oil temperature increase < 10 ~ 35 °C (50 ~ 63 °F) (Threshold depends on Coolant temperature at start)
case 2
  • Measured oil temperature < 20 °C (68 °F)
  • Measured oil temperature > 100 °C (212 °F)
Diagnostic Time case 1
  • 10-30 min. (depends on Engine Coolant Temp, and driving condition at start)
case 2
  • 15 seconds.
