DTC P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1): DTC Detecting Condition

DTC DETECTING CONDITION CHART

Item Detecting Condition Possible Cause
DTC Strategy
  • Check catalyst oxygen storage capacity by evaluation downstream 02 sensor fluctuations
  • Open or short in signal, ground or power supply circuit
  • Contact resistance in connectors
  • Misadjusted crankshaft and camshaft pulley position
  • Faulty CMP sensor
Enable Conditions
  • Coolant temperature > 74°C (165°F)
  • 5km/h(3MPH) < Vehicle speed < 180km/h(112MPH)
  • Ambient pressure > 700 hPa
  • Engine speed < 3400rpm
  • 200 < Mass air flow (mg/rev.) < 700
  • [Current engine speed - mean valve] < 500rpm
  • [Current engine load - mean valve] < 50mg/rev
  • [Current Lambda correction mean value - mean of Lambda correction mean Valve] < 4%
  • 400°C(752°) Less than or equal to Catalyst temperature model less than or equal to 900°(1652°F)
  • Lambda control active
  • Canister Purge Valve not in CLOSE state
  • Catalyst purge after Fuel Cut-Off finished
  • No relevant failure
  • 11V < Battery voltage < 16V

  • Averaged Malfunction Index > threshold
Diagnostic Time
  • 100 forced stimulation cycles
Mil On Condition
  • 2 Driving Cycles
