Inspection Procedures

  1. PROBLEM VERIFICATION
    1. Connect a Hi-Scan (Pro) to the data link connector.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Using the Hi-Scan (Pro), monitor the signal waveform of the injector.

      Is the signal waveform normal?

    No: Go to next

Yes: Problem is intermittent or was repaired and engine control module memory was not cleared. Proceed with INTERMITTENT PROBLEM PROCEDURE  .

  2. CHECK INJECTOR AND ECM CONNECTORS
    1. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

      Are all connectors good?

    Yes: Go to next

    No: Repair or replace it.

  3. CHECK INJECTOR RESISTANCE
    1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and disconnect injector connector.
    2. Measure resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the injector connector.

    • 13.8~15.2ohm at 20°C (68°F)

    Is resistance within specification?

    Yes: Go to next

    No: Replace injector.

  4. CHECK POWER TO INJECTOR
    1. Turn ignition switch to ON position and measure voltage between terminal 1 of the injector harness connector and chassis ground.
Fig 2: Measure Voltage Between Terminal 1 Of The Injector Harness Connector And Chassis Ground

    • Specification: approximately B+

    Is voltage within specification?

    Yes: Go to next

No: Repair open or short to chassis ground in harness.

  5. CHECK FOR SHORT TO POWER IN HARNESS
    1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and disconnect ECM connector.
    2. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
    3. Measure voltage between terminal 2 of the injector harness connector and chassis ground.

    • Specification: below 0.5V

    Is voltage within specification?

    Yes: Go to next

No: Repair short to power in harness.

  6. CHECK FOR OPEN IN HARNESS
    1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and keep the injector and ECM connectors disconnected.
    2. Measure resistance between terminal 2 of the injector harness connector and 62 of the ECM harness connector C83.
Fig 4: Measuring Resistance Between Terminal 2 Of Injector Harness Connector & 62 Of ECM Harness Connector C83

    • Specification: below 1ohm

    Does resistance indicate continuity?

Yes: Proceed with ECM PROBLEM PROCEDURE  .

    No: Repair open in harness.
