Test Procedures
NOTE:
For additional diagnostic information applying to DTCs P0441, P0442, and P0455, see Hyundai TSB 98-30-002.
- Start engine and allow to idle. Check EVAP control system vacuum hoses for vacuum leaks and clogs. If problem exists, repair as necessary. If problem does not exist, go to next step. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect canister purge control valve 2-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and canister purge control valve connector terminal No. 1 (Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short to ground in Pink wire between canister purge control valve and engine control relay connector terminal No. 3 (Pink wire). When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 88-pin connector. Using a jumper wire, ground canister purge control valve connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Black wire). Measure resistance between ground and ECM connector terminal No. 36 (Red/Black wire). See Figure . If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open in Red/Black wire between ECM and canister purge control valve. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
- Remove jumper wire. Check for continuity between ground and canister purge control valve connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Black wire). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Red/Black wire between canister purge control valve and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
- Measure resistance between canister purge control valve terminals No. 1 and 2 (component side). Resistance should be about 27 ohms. If resistance is as specified, verify ECM connector terminals are clean and tight. If connector is okay, replace ECM. If resistance is not as specified, replace canister purge control valve. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
