Test Procedures
- Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to data link connector and verify DTC P1611 or P01613 is set. Repair DTC P1586 first, if set.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 88-pin connector and TCM 26-pin connector. Using a jumper wire, connect TCM connector terminal No. 22 (Orange wire on Elantra; Yellow/Black wire on Tiburon) to ground. Measure resistance between ground and ECM connector terminal No. 61 (Orange wire on Elantra; Blue/Black wire on Tiburon). If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open in circuit between ECM and TCM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 88-pin connector and TCM 26-pin connector. Check for continuity between ground and TCM 26-pin connector terminal No. 22 (Orange wire on Elantra; Yellow/Black wire on Tiburon). If DTC P1611 is set, go to step 5 . If DTC P1613 is set and continuity does not exist, go to next step. If DTC P1613 is set and continuity exists, repair short to ground in circuit between ECM and TCM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
- If DTC P1613 is set, ensure ignition is off. Disconnect ECM 88-pin connector and TCM 26-pin connector. Measure voltage between ground and TCM 26-pin connector terminal No. 22 (Orange wire on Elantra; Yellow/Black wire on Tiburon). If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in circuit between ECM and TCM. If voltage is not present, ensure ECM and TCM connector terminals are clean and tight. If connectors are okay, replace TCM with a known-good component. Clear DTC and verify system operation. If problem persists, replace ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
