Test Procedures

  1. Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to data link connector and verify DTC P1605 or P1606 is set. Turn ignition off. Disconnect acceleration sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and acceleration sensor connector terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire). If 5.0 volts exists, go to next step. If 5.0 volts does not exist, repair open in circuit between acceleration sensor and ECM connector terminal No. 59. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect acceleration sensor connector. Measure resistance between ground and acceleration sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Pink wire on Elantra; Blue/Black wire on Tiburon). If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open in circuit between acceleration sensor and ECM connector terminal No. 71 (Pink wire on Elantra; White/Black wire on Tiburon). When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect acceleration sensor connector. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Using a jumper wire, connect acceleration sensor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Black wire on Elantra; Orange/Black wire on Tiburon) to ground. Measure resistance between ground and ECM connector terminal No. 80. If resistance is one ohm or less, remove jumper wire and go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open in circuit between acceleration sensor and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect acceleration sensor and ECM connectors. Check for continuity between ground and acceleration sensor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Black wire on Elantra; Orange/Black wire on Tiburon). If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in circuit between acceleration sensor and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect acceleration sensor connector. Measure resistance between acceleration sensor terminals No. 2 and 3. If resistance is approximately 21,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not approximately 21,000 ohms, replace acceleration sensor. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  6. Turn ignition off. Reconnect acceleration sensor and ECM connectors. Start engine and allow to idle. Backprobe acceleration sensor connector and measure voltage between ground and acceleration sensor connector terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire). If 2.3-2.7 volts are present, ensure ECM connector terminals are clean and tight. If ECM connector is okay, replace acceleration sensor. If problem persists, replace ECM. If 2.3-2.7 volts is not present, replace acceleration sensor. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
