Test Procedures

  1. Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to data link connector and verify DTC P1513 or P1553 is set. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ISC actuator harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and ISC actuator harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red/White wire). If battery voltage is present and DTC P1513 is set, go to next step. If battery voltage is present and DTC P1553 is set, go to step  4 . If battery voltage is not present, repair open in circuit between engine control relay and ISC actuator. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ISC actuator connector and ECM 88-pin connector. If DTC P1513 is set, using a jumper wire, connect ISC connector terminal No. 3 on Elantra or terminal No. 1 on Tiburon to ground. Measure resistance between ground and ECM harness connector terminal No. 29 (White/Black wire). If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open in circuit between ISC actuator and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove jumper wire. Check continuity between ground and ISC actuator harness connector terminal No. 3 on Elantra or terminal No. 1 on Tiburon. If continuity does not exist, go to step  6 . If continuity exists, repair short to ground in circuit between ISC actuator and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ISC actuator connector and ECM 88-pin connector. If DTC P1553 is set, using a jumper wire, connect ISC connector terminal No. 1 on Elantra or terminal No. 3 on Tiburon to ground. Measure resistance between ground and ECM harness connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Black wire). If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open in circuit between ISC actuator and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove jumper wire. Check continuity between ground and ISC actuator harness connector terminal No. 1 on Elantra or terminal No. 3 on Tiburon. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair short to ground in circuit between ISC actuator and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
  6. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ISC actuator terminals No. 1 and 2, and between terminals No. 2 and 3. If resistance is 10-14 ohms at 68°F (20°C), ensure ECM connector terminals are clean and tight. If connector and terminals are okay, replace ISC actuator. Clear DTC and verify system operation. If problem persists, replace ECM. If resistance is not 10-14 ohms, replace ISC actuator. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify system operation.
