Test Procedures

  1. Turn ignition on. Connect scan tool to data link connector and verify DTC P0326 is set. Verify fuel is at least 87 octane. If fuel is not at least 87 octane, refuel vehicle with higher octane fuel. Ensure knock sensor is tightened to 12-19 ft. lbs. (16-26 N.m). When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify operation. If DTC P0326 resets, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect knock sensor connector. Measure resistance between knock sensor terminals No. 1 (White wire on Elantra; Blue wire on Tiburon) and No. 2 (Green wire on Elantra; Brown/Black wire on Tiburon). If knock sensor resistance is about 5 megohms at 68°F (20°C), go to next step. If resistance is not about 5 megohms at 68°F (20°C), replace knock sensor. Tighten knock sensor to 12-19 ft. lbs. (16-26 N.m). When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify operation.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect knock sensor and ECM connectors. Using jumper wires, connect knock sensor harness connector terminals No. 1 (White wire on Elantra; Blue wire on Tiburon) and No. 2 (Green wire on Elantra; Brown/Black wire on Tiburon) to ground. Measure resistance between ground and ECM connector terminals No. 70 (Green wire on Elantra; Brown/Black wire on Tiburon) and No. 71 (Pink wire on Elantra; White/Black wire on Tiburon). If resistance is one ohm or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open in suspect wire between knock sensor and ECM. When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify operation.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect knock sensor and ECM connectors. Check for continuity between ground and knock sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Green wire on Elantra; Brown/Black wire on Tiburon). If continuity does not exist, ensure ECM connector terminals are clean and tight. If connector is okay, replace knock sensor with a known-good component, clear DTC and verify operation. If problem persists, replace ECM. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in circuit between knock sensor and ECM connector terminal No. 70 (Green wire on Elantra; Brown/Black wire on Tiburon). When repairs are completed, clear DTC and verify operation.
