SERVICE INFORMATION

The Oxygen Sensor (O2) measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas and converts this quantity into a voltage to be analyzed by the ECM. A normal oxygen sensor signal will constantly fluctuate above and below 500 millivolts (mv) when the fuel injection system is in closed loop operation. The air/fuel mixture is considered rich when the oxygen sensor signal is above 500 mv; the mixture is considered lean when the signal is below 500 mv.

An incorrect oxygen sensor signal can result in poor driveability and an oxygen sensor diagnostic trouble code being set. When troubleshooting a vehicle with an oxygen sensor code stored in the ECM, consider the possible causes listed below:
