Rocker Arm and Shaft - Inspect

1. Measure the diameter of the shaft at the first rocker location.

2. Zero the gauge (A) to the shaft diameter.

3. Measure the inside diameter of the rocker arm, and check it for an out-of-round condition.

Intake Rocker Arm-to-Shaft Clearance

PRI
Standard (New):	0.018-0.064mm (0.00071-0.00252 in)
MID
Standard (New):	0.018-0.059mm (0.00071-0.00232 in)
SEC
Standard (New):	0.018-0.064mm (0.00071-0.00252 in)
Service Limit:	0.08mm (0.0031 in)

Exhaust Rocker Arm-to-Shaft Clearance

Standard (New):	0.018-0.059mm (0.00071-0.00232 in)
Service Limit:	0.08mm (0.0031 in)

4. Repeat for all rockers and shaft. If the clearance is beyond the service limit, replace the rocker shaft and all out of service limit rocker arms. If any VTEC rocker arm needs replacement, replace the rocker arms as an assembly.

VTEC Rocker Arm - Inspect

1. Inspect the rocker arm pistons (A). Push on each piston manually. If it does not move smoothly, replace the rocker arm set.

NOTE:

When disassembling the rocker arm, carefully apply air pressure to the oil passage.
Apply new engine oil to the rocker arm pistons when reassembling.
