AWD system indicator does not come on

  1. Problem verification:
    • 1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

    Does the AWD system indicator come on? 

    YES  : Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

    NO  : The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

  2. Gauge control module operation check:

    Does the AWD system indicator blink? 

    YES  : Go to step 3.

    NO  : Replace the gauge control module  See GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or Rewriting the ODO Data and Transferring the Maintenance Minder™ Data to a New Gauge Control Module .

  3. Real time AWD control unit check:
    • 1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
    • 2. Remove the following fuse.

      Fuse No. B6 (7.5 A)

      Location Under-dash fuse/relay box

    • 3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

    Does the AWD system indicator come on? 

    YES  : Update the real time AWD control unit if it does not have the latest software  See REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  or REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT UPDATE , or substitute a known-good real time AWD control unit  See REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  or REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT UPDATE , and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with the updated real time AWD control unit, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good real time AWD control unit, replace the original real time AWD control unit  See REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  or REAL TIME AWD CONTROL UNIT UPDATE .

    NO  : Replace the gauge control module  See GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or Rewriting the ODO Data and Transferring the Maintenance Minder™ Data to a New Gauge Control Module .
