Shift Lock Release and Release Spring Removal and Installation: Removal

  1. Shift Lever Panel (AT)
    1. Carefully pry out the shift lever panel (A) with the appropriate trim tool to detach the clips (B, C) and the hooks (D), then remove the shift lever panel.

  2. Front Console Cover - Both Sides
    1. Remove the clips (A).
    2. Detach the clips (B), then remove the front console covers (C).

      Left side

      Right side

  3. Center Console Rear Trim
    1. Carefully pry out the center console rear trim (A) with the appropriate trim tool to detach the clips (B) and the hooks (C), then remove the center console rear trim.

  4. Center Console
    1. Carefully pry out the center lower cover (A) with the appropriate trim tool to detach the clips (B), then remove the center lower cover.
    2. Remove the bolt (C).

    3. Remove the bolts (A).

    4. Remove the console box mat (A), then remove the bolts (B).

    5. Disconnect the connectors (A), and remove the clips (B).

    6. Slide both front seats fully rearward, and recline the seat-backs around two thirds to the rear.
    7. Remove the center console (A).

  5. Center Maintenance Cover
    1. Remove the maintenance cover (A).

  6. Shift Cable - Disconnection Lever Side
    1. Shift the shift lever to R.
    2. Insert a 6.0 mm (0.236 in) pin (A) into the positioning holes (B).
      NOTE: Use only a 6.0 mm (0.236 in) pin with no burrs.
    3. Remove the nut (C) securing the shift cable end (D).

    4. Unlock the retainer lock (A).

    5. Rotate the socket holder retainer (A) counterclockwise (B) until it stops, and push the retainer lock (C) into the socket holder retainer to lock the retainer.

    6. Slide the socket holder (A) away from the bracket as shown to remove the shift cable (B) from the shift cable bracket (C).
      NOTE: Do not remove the shift cable by pulling the shift cable guide (D).

  7. A/T Shift Lever Assembly
    1. Disconnect the shift lever connector.

    2. Remove the shift lever assembly.

  8. D3 Switch Harness - Disconnection
    1. Remove the harness wire tie (A).
    2. Disconnect the D3 switch connector (B).

  9. Shift Lever Knob/Shift Lever Knob Ring Assembly
    NOTE: Do not wipe off the special grease applied to the area of the shift lever marked with an asterisk (*) when you disassemble or assemble it.
    1. Unhook the D3 switch harness (A) from the harness guide (B).
    2. Remove the shift lever knob/shift lever knob ring assembly (C).

  10. A/T Gear Position Indicator Panel Assembly
    1. Remove the A/T gear position indicator panel light socket (A) from the A/T gear position indicator panel assembly (B).
    2. Unhook the A/T gear position indicator panel light harness (C) from the harness guide (D).
    3. Remove the A/T gear position indicator panel assembly by expanding the four lock tabs (E).

  11. Shift Lock Release
    1. Remove the shift lock release (A) and the release spring (B) by pressing the lock tab (C).
