Got a vehicle that loses power while driving, but drives OK when checked and has no set DTCs? It might just be the normal workings of the brake override system.

That system is designed to cut engine power if it senses that the accelerator pedal might be stuck (the pedal is open and then the brake pedal is pushed). If you rest your left foot on the brake pedal while driving, the system will think you're trying to slow down the vehicle and will cut engine power.

Before doing any troubleshooting, have the service advisor ask your customer about his or her driving habits. He or she just might be experiencing the brake override system in action.
