DTC 85: CAN Data Error

NOTE: If DTC U0073 and/or U0155 are stored at the same time as DTC 85, troubleshoot those DTCs first, then recheck for DTC 85.
  1. Clear the DTC (see HOW TO RETRIEVE TPMS DTCS  ).
  2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

    Is DTC 85 indicated? 

    YES  - Go to step 3.

    NO  - The system is OK at this time.

  3. Test-drive the vehicle and monitor the vehicle speed with the HDS. Compare the vehicle speed on gauge assembly with the speed on the HDS screen.

    Is the vehicle speed OK? 

    YES  - Go to step  11.

    NO  - Go to step 4.

  4. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then disconnect the TPMS control unit connector A (14P) and connector B (20P).
  5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  6. Test-drive the vehicle and monitor the vehicle speed with the HDS. Compare the vehicle speed on gauge assembly with the speed on the HDS screen.

    Is the vehicle speed OK? 

    YES  - Check for loose terminals and poor connections at the TPMS control unit. If necessary, substitute a known-good TPMS control unit and recheck.

    NO  - Go to step 7.

  7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  8. Reconnect all connectors.
  9. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  10. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

    Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? 

    YES  - If DTC U0073 and/or U0155 are indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the TPMS control unit and the PCM, then go to the indicated DTC TROUBLESHOOTING .

    NO  - Replace the gauge assembly (see GAUGE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT ).

  11. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then disconnect the TPMS control unit connector A (14P) and connector B (20P).
  12. Check for continuity between the TPMS control unit connector B (20P) and the PCM connector A (44P).

    Is there continuity? 

    YES  - Check for loose terminals and poor connections at the TPMS control unit. If necessary, substitute a known-good TPMS control unit and recheck.

    NO  - Repair open in the appropriate wire between TPMS control unit and PCM.
