DTC P0461: Fuel Level Sensor (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Range/Performance

NOTE: This DTC cannot be duplicated during troubleshooting because it requires 123 miles (198 km) of driving without refueling to complete the diagnosis.
  1. Test the fuel gauge sending unit (see Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Test  ).

    Is the fuel gauge sending unit OK? 

    1. YES  -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the fuel gauge sending unit and the PCM, then go to step 2.
    2. NO  -Replace the fuel gauge sending unit (see step 10 on Fuel Pump Replacement  ).
  2. Install the fuel tank unit (see step 12 on Fuel Pump Replacement  ).
  3. Reset the PCM (see HOW TO RESET THE PCM ).
  4. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE ).
