DTC P0133: Primary HO2S (Sensor 1) Circuit Slow Response

NOTE:
  • If DTC P0131, P0132 and/or P0135 are stored at the same time as DTC P0133, troubleshoot those DTCs first, then recheck for DTC P0133.
  • Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
  1. Reset the ECM (see HOW TO RESET THE ECM ).
  2. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 RPM without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.
  3. Test-drive under these conditions:
    • Transmission in 6th gear
    • 55 mph (89 km/h) steady speed
    • Until readiness code or Temporary DTC P0133 comes on
  4. Check for a Temporary DTC with a scan tool or the HDS.

    Is Temporary DTC P0133 indicated? 

    1. YES -  Replace the primary HO2S (Sensor 1) (see PRIMARY HO2S REPLACEMENT  ).
    2. NO -  Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the primary HO2S (Sensor 1) and at the ECM.
