Shift Lever Position Switch

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 1992 Honda Prelude, 1992 Honda Civic, 1992 Honda Accord, 1991 Honda Prelude, and 1991 Honda Civic. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Only A/T vehicles are equipped with shift lever position switch.
  1. Remove front console to access shift lever position switch located on side of shift lever mechanism. Disconnect shift lever position switch 10, 12 or 14-pin connector.
  2. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between shift lever position switch 10, 12 or 14-pin connector terminals with shift lever in "2", "D" and "D4" positions on all models except 1991 Prelude, or "2", "S" and "D" positions on 1991 Prelude.   3. Continuity should be present in each position. If continuity is pre-sent, shift lever position switch is functioning properly. If continuity is not present, go to next step.
  4. Check shift lever position switch adjustment. See SHIFT LEVER POSITION SWITCH under ADJUSTMENTS  . If shift lever position switch adjustment is okay, replace malfunctioning shift lever position switch and adjust as necessary. See SHIFT LEVER POSITION SWITCH under ADJUSTMENTS.

(1) Shift lever position switch has a 12-pin connector.
(2) Shift lever position switch has a 10-pin connector.
(3) Shift lever position switch has a 14-pin connector.
