DTC 14 - Abs Enable Relay Contact Circuit Open: Notes

NOTE: For circuit and connector terminal identification, see WIRING DIAGRAM  .

Ignition voltage is supplied through terminal No. 2 of the ABS enable relay. The EBCM engages pull-in coil of relay by completing the ground circuit at terminal D6 of the EBCM. This energizes relay windings, closing the internal contacts which supplies power to the motors and solenoids.

DTC 14 can set anytime after the EBCM commands the ABS enable relay on.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Verifies malfunction is currently present.
  2. Checks for proper operation of ABS enable relay and related circuit.
  3. Checks for excessive resistance in the switched battery circuit between the ABS relay and the EBCM.
  4. Checks for excessive resistance in the switched battery circuit between the battery and the EBCM.
  5. Checks condition of the ABS enable relay.
  6. Determines if the malfunction is due to a poor connection.
  7. Determines if the malfunction is due to the EBCM.
  8. Checks for excessive resistance in the ABS relay control circuit.
  9. Checks for proper battery voltage.
  10. Checks for proper voltage at ABS enable relay.
  11. Checks for an open in the switched battery circuit.
  12. Checks condition of the ABS enable relay.
  13. Checks for proper resistance of the ABS enable relay coil.
  14. Checks for excessive resistance in the ABS enable relay circuit between the relay and EBCM.
  15. Checks for excessive resistance in the ABS enable relay control circuit between the battery and the relay.
  16. Checks for intermittent poor terminal connections.
