DTC 14, Ignition Signal Circuit No Ignition Signal: Notes

Igniter receives 5 volts from ECM. Igniter processes voltage then returns voltage to ECM as a ignition fail-safe signal. ECM also receives a .7 volt ignition signal when starter is being cranked. ECM uses these signals, along with others, to pulse injectors. DTC 14 will set if ignition fail-safe signal is not received during 4 consecutive ignition signals.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Checks for 5-volt signal from ECM.
  2. Verifies 0.10-2.0 volt signal from ECM.
  3. Checks for power to distributor.
  4. Checks for open in Black/Orange wire between junction block No. 1 and distributor or for a faulty junction block No. 1.
  5. Checks for opens in power feed to igniter, or for a faulty ignition coil or igniter.
  6. Checks for open in Red/Black or Black/Orange wires to ignition switch and a faulty ignition switch.
