Code 41, Throttle Switch Circuit: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1992 Geo Prizm. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

ECM supplies B+ to a throttle switch on throttle body. When engine is idling, ECM senses a low signal voltage. With throttle slightly open, ECM will sense a high signal voltage. At wide open throttle, signal voltage is low. Code 41 is set if ECM senses a low or high voltage signal all the time.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. ECM supplies battery voltage to the throttle switch. Poor connection or a ground circuit will indicate a low signal.
  2. Checks for a misadjusted throttle switch.
