Repair Procedures: Disassembly
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, disconnect the wiring connectors carefully.
- Turn the crankshaft damper pulley so that the No. 1 piston is at top dead center.
Information
- Mark all wirings and hoses to avoid misconnection.
- Start the engine to release the pressure inside the fuel line. Then, remove the fuel pump relay. When the engine runs out of fuel in the fuel line and stops, turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Remove the engine and transmission assembly.

- Remove the automatic transmission.

- Remove the drive plate.

- Remove the front driveshaft. (AWD Type)
(Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "REPAIR PROCEDURES ")
- Remove the differential carrier assembly. (AWD Type)
(Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER (AWD) ")
- Install the engine assembly to engine stand for disassembly.
- Remove the LH and RH cylinder head assembly.

- Remove the upper oil pan and lower oil pan.

- Remove the oil pump.
(Refer to Lubrication System - "OIL PUMP ")
- Remove the baffle plate (A).
- Remove the piston and connecting rod assembly.
- Remove the carbon deposits on the top of cylinder.
- Remove the connecting rod bearing caps (A).
Information
- Mark the cylinder No. on the connecting rod and cap for correct installation when reinstalling.
- Push the piston and connecting rod assembly (A) together with the upper bearing through the top of the cylinder block.
NOTE:- Keep the connecting rod and cap with the bearing assembled
- Arrange the piston and connecting rod assemblies in the correct order.
- Measure the clearance between the piston and piston pin. Try to move the piston back and forth on the piston pin.
If any movement is felt, replace the piston and piston pin as a set.
- Remove piston rings.
- Remove the 2 compression rings (A) using a piston ring expander.
- Remove the oil ring (B) by hand.
- Separate the piston and connecting rod.
- Remove the snap rings (C).
- Remove the piston pin (D) from the piston.
- Separate the piston (E) and connecting rod (F).
