Repair Procedures: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, disconnect the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
  • Start the engine to release the pressure inside the fuel line. Then, remove the fuel pump relay. When the engine runs out of fuel in the fuel line and stops, turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal from the trunk room.
  2. Remove the engine cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE COVER ")

  3. Remove the engine room under cover.

    (Refer to Engine and Transmission Assembly - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  4. Loosen the drain plug and drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  5. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler outlet hose and then drain the water cooled intercooler coolant.

    (Refer to Cooling System - "COOLANT ")

  6. Recover the A/C refrigerant and then remove the A/C compressor high pressure pipe and low pressure pipe (A).

    Tightening torque:  20.0 - 23.7 N.m (2.04 - 2.42 kgf.m, 14.8 - 17.5 lb-ft)

  7. Remove the LH and RH air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  8. Remove the intercooler inlet pipe (A).

  9. Disconnect the control wiring connector and harness from the engine room.
    1. Disconnect the front control connector (A) and wiring ground (B) and then separate the wiring protector (C).

      Tightening torque:  7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.7 - 7.2 lb.ft)

    2. Disconnect the engine control module (ECM) connector (A) and transmission control module (TCM) connector (B).
    3. Disconnect the ground (C) and then separate the wiring protector (D).

      Tightening torque:  7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.7 - 7.2 lb.ft)

  10. Disconnect the over flow hose (A) and reservoir tank hose (B).

  11. Disconnect the water cooled intercooler inlet hose (A).

  12. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

  14. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  15. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B).

  16. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  17. Disconnect the ATF cooler hose (A).

  18. Disconnect the engine ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque:  10.7 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 7.9 - 10.1 lb.ft)

  19. Remove the steering U-joint mounting bolt.

    (Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN AND SHAFT ")

  20. Disconnect the transmission ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque:  26.5 - 32.4 N.m (2.7 - 3.3 kgf.m, 19.5 - 23.9 lb.ft)

  21. Disconnect the R-MDPS connector (A).

  22. Remove the front muffler.

    (Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "MUFFLER ")

  23. Remove the tie rod end ball joint from the knuckle.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  24. Remove the tension arm.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  25. Remove the lateral arm mounting bolt from the knuckle.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  26. Remove the propeller shaft mounting bolt and nut and then separate the propeller shaft from the transfer assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "PROPELLER SHAFT ")

  27. Remove the front driveshaft.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and Axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  28. Support the engine and transmission assembly with a floor jack.

  29. Remove the front cross member mounting bolt (A).

    Tightening torque:  196.1 - 215.7 N.m (20.0 - 22.0 kgf.m, 144.7 - 159.1 lb.ft)

  30. Remove the transmission mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque:  58.8 - 73.5 N.m (6.0 - 7.5 kgf.m, 43.4 - 54.2 lb-ft)

  31. Remove the front end module mounting bolt (A).

  32. Remove the engine and transmission assembly and front cross member by lifting vehicle.

    CAUTION:
    • Remove the engine, transmission assembly and the front cross member horizontally. When removing, be careful not to damage the front end module (A).

    NOTE:
    • Before removing the engine and transmission assembly, make sure hoses and wire connectors are disconnected.
    • When removing the engine and transmission assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
  33. Remove the transmission assembly from the engine assembly.

    (Refer to Automatic Transmission System - "REMOVAL ")

  34. Remove the engine mounting support bracket mounting nut and then remove the engine assembly form the front cross member by lifting up the engine hoist.
