Installation Procedure
- Inspect the CNG tank expiration date which is found on the tank label.
- If replacing the fuel tank, transfer all parts to be reused from the original tank to the replacement tank before installation. Inspect the lower tank bracket rubber isolators for wear or damage. Replace if worn or damaged.
- Wrap lifting straps (1) around the tank (2) and install the tank into the tank bracket with an engine hoist.
- Replace the upper fuel tank strap rubber isolators with two new isolators. Install the two straps (2) using four new bolts (1). Reinstall any shim washers on the strap bolts in the same way they were originally installed.
- Verify that the rubber fuel tank isolators are properly seated between the tank and tank straps. There should be no locations where the metal tank strap is in direct contact with the fuel tank. Reposition as needed. Torque the strap bolts to 45 (33 lb ft).
- Connect all fuel lines, and pressure relief devices (PRD) vent pipes, using new o-rings. Connect the electrical connectors to the solenoid tank valve.
- Refill the CNG fuel tank, and check for leaks using J-45878 Combustible Gas Detector or Equivalent.
- Install the tank cover. Refer to Compressed Natural Gas Tank Cover Replacement .
NOTE:
To ensure the proper retention of the fuel tank, replace the fuel tank upper isolator and fuel tank strap bolts each time the tank is removed or a fuel strap is disassembled.
NOTE:
Any CNG fuel tank which is past its expiration date must be removed from service.
