Fuel System Pressure Test

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 1998 GMC Suburban, 1998 GMC Pickup, 1998 GMC Cab & Chassis, 1998 GMC C3500 HD, and 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For fuel pump circuit testing, see FUEL SYSTEM ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT in NO START DIAGNOSIS .
  1. Turn ignition off. Install tee adapter and pressure gauge at injection pump. Start engine and measure fuel pressure.
  2. If fuel pressure is not 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ), check fuel lines and fuel tank sending unit for restriction. If fuel lines and sending unit are okay, replace fuel pump.
